I'm a software developer living in Midtown, Atlanta. I wrote the MetaForum software in 2004. More recently I've been doing Ruby on Rails development for a startup named Vitrue. I also maintain the Forum Atlanta messageboard. Feel free to stop by and say hello!

All that midtown has to offer.

So for some reason today, I wanted a way to visually see where every single restaurant, cafe, coffee shop, pub, bar, bistro, club, and eatery was in midtown.  I’m always talking the talk about how many places midtown atlanta has to go, and that you could go to a different place every day and never see them all, but to what extent that is true, was hard to visualize.  Holy CRAP that was a run on sentence, and it doesn’t look like I’m going to rectify that situation at all, and instead, will continue on doing it, because the whole point of this was to explain how I went on to this GMeetUp site and started entering in the addresses and names of all the places that I could find.

Then I hit on citysearch for atlanta, did a proximity search to 800 peachtree street, and wow, that was a lot easier.  So I got a good ways in, here’s what it looks like so far:

Unfortunately I only got to about the 4th page and .25 miles away when I looked up and saw the total:  1,288 listed in midtown.  OMGZ!  I’m not manually typing in 1,288 addresses, besides it seems once you hit about 100 locations on this google map it starts to slow waaay down, Firefox was taking up 300mb of memory.  Anyway, for anyone googling this, the above is at least a pretty decent map of restaurants and bars in midtown atlanta:)
